John Deere 185. Hi all, I have a 1986 JD Hydro 185 mower that my dad bought new and it has been passed down to me. It runs and mows great. The only problem is when it gets warmer or hot after 10-15 mins. of mowing the transmission gets weak and it can't pull itself mainly on a slight incline or on a sharp turn and also in reverse is very weak too.Here is information from John Deere Technical Manual TM-1351 (19APR90) For 165 175 185 Hydro with serial numbers 360001 thru 475000: Eaton Hydrostatic Transmission, SAE 30 Motor Oil, 0.7 liters.
